The race for the next President-General of the Oranaeze Ndi Igbo kicks off today with a Virtual Interactive Session. I tried to contest for the position but it was not possible. The position is zoned to Imo State as from January 11, 2021; after which it proceeds to Abia State. I am from neither of the two states, and so I am disqualified for the position for the next eight or so years.
The position of the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo is a big deal. Ohanaeze or Oranaeze is the ethnic umbrella of all Igbo political organizations. Every Igbo political outfit—at home, at the border (as in Benue State) or in the Diaspora (as in Igboakiri or Igbanke, Equatorial Guinea, UK, etc.), is subordinate to the Oranaeze Ndi Igbo.
The incoming President-General from Imo State must build on the achievements, commitments, and passion of Chief Nnia Nwodo the outgoing President-General and some of his predecessors. Chief Nwodo served us very well. We owe him our gratitude, even as we expect the incoming to do even better.
We would not tolerate our next President-General to be bought over by any of our HausaFulani and Yoruba rivals. The signs are there already. But woe betide any that opts down that ignoble path.
With that said, the next Ohanaeze President-General must also find a way to either make IPOB to serve Ndi Igbo or else neutralize and disband it. Like Ralph Uwazurike’s MASSOB illegal franchise did for 16 years, IPOB has been serving the private pockets and bank accounts of its seen and unseen proprietors for 7 years now.
For 20 years now, Ralph Uwazurike & co. and Nnamdi Kanu & co. have been embezzling Igbo money into their private accounts. They have also been expropriating hard-earned Igbo money to other lands. And the worst of it all is that they embezzle by inciting Igbo against Igbo.
IPOB is costing only us lives, properties and goodwill. We cannot continue to condone a private group’s illegal franchise to continue to defraud, destroy, and distablize us. The next Ohanaeze leaders must denounce IPOB and the like categorically.
